POWER FROM LOCAL ELECTRIC PLAN TO BE SHUT OFF MONDAY EVENING

Patrons using power from the plant of the Central Indiana Lighting Company
were notified today that power will be discontinued after six o'clock
Monday afternoon on account of the acute coal situation.

The local company had only one car load on hand today and has no promise of
supply for the future. The company uses about a car a day to keep the
electric light and hot water plant going.

Unless a supply is obtained, the whole plant will be shut down and that
would mean lightless nights for all and cheerless days and nights for those
who have the hot water heating system in their homes.

When the power is shut off Monday afternoon it will mean that the cash
carrier system in the stores will stop; also that shoe shops and mills and
factories using electric power will have to make other arrangements. Both
the local newspaper offices are kept running by elecric power from the
local plant which is used to keep the linotype machines, job and newspaper
presses going.

The Nurre Mirror Plate Company has been running the local glass plant of
nights since the Williams Power Plant was shut down. Mr. Nurre has the
plant runing from 9 in the evening until 6:30 in the morning.

The university has enough coal stored on the campus to keep running until
March 1st.
