Bloomington (IN) Republican Progress, November 10, 1880, p. 2.

Died--Mrs. Martha Farmer, at her residence in Bloomington, on MOnday,
November 1st, 1880, aged seventy-eight years and nine months.

Martha McDonald was born in what is now Nelson, but then a part of Spencer
County, Kentucky, April 1, 1802, where she spent her girlhood, and in
December, 1820, was married to Robinson Farmer. Here also she was
converted and united with Simpson's Creek Baptist Church being baptized by
Elder Moses Pearson, well known as a pioneer Baptist preacher in that
state. In 1823 they removed to Monroe County, Indiana, which has been her
home continuously ever since, excepting three years spent in Owen
County. The family has been among the best known of the earlier ones of
Monroe County. She was loved by all who knew her well, and during her long
life was a true friend and neighbor, and truly a good Samaritan among
strangers in need. For several years she has herself been a sufferer and
needing the kind offices she so willing rendered others. For two years her
strength has gradually been failing and for the past three weeks only the
tenacity for life of a marvelous constitution has preserved her. All her
powers were completely subdued by paralysis. She was an exceedingly
patient sufferer and seemed concerned only for those dearest and nearest to
her. Her funeral services were conducted in the house at 2 o'clock on last
Tuesday afternoon by her paster, Rev. A. B. Charpie.
