The WPA Monroe County, Indiana, Death Index is being compiled into a database
by Lana Taylor and Cathy Riddle and will be made available upon completion,
free of charge, at a site on Rootsweb.
The Monroe County Health Department made a copy of the index available for
this project. In the event of poor legibility or information that is
otherwise confusing, e.g., strikeovers, a book and page number are noted to
assist in obtaining copies of death records. Otherwise, that information has
been omitted in the interest of time and space.
To order death records, send a request with name of the deceased and date and
place of death to: Monroe County Health Department, 119 W. 7th Street,
Bloomington IN 47404-3989. Certified copies are $6.00; genealogical copies
(these have more information) are $4.00. Remember to include: a copy of your
photo ID, indicate the purpose for which you need the record (genealogy),
your relationship (if any) to the person, and your mailing address and phone
number.
Information will be sent to the INMONROE list as it is entered and,
therefore, may appear fragmented, e.g., Ms may appear before Bs.
Additionally, keep in mind that record keeping was lax during these early
years, and some records may be missing or incomplete.
Unfortunately, time does not permit lookups in this document. Be patient. If
the information is in the index, it will be sent to the list eventually.
