Salt Creek Community clipping file, Monroe County Historical
Society, no
source noted, Jun 21, 1884.

Mrs. Kessiah Lucas, wife of John Lucas, died after a long
illness Friday,
May 23. She leaves a husband and several children besides a
large number
of friends to mourn her loss.

-------- Comment --------
This would be a daughter of Jesse Dever & his wife Martha
Cane.

Her name has been spelled many ways: Her 1839 marriage license
gives her name as "Kesiah Davor". The 1850 census spelling of
her name is "Kiziah Lucas". Her father's 1867 will names her
as "Keziah Lucas". "Kiziah Lucas" appears to be the name on
her 1884 headstone found in Lucas Cemetery, Smithville.

I believe she was born Bet. December 1820 & November 1823 in
Tennessee.
SOURCES:
#1. "The Devore / De Vore Families: 1500-1992" by Betty Mann
gives exact birth date for Keziah as 20 December 1820.
#2. The 1850 Monroe County Census (Salt Creek Twp.) gives her
birthdate as about 1821.
#3. Judith Hudson, the Great-Great Granddaughter of JOHN LUCAS
and KAZIAH DEVER gives her birth date and place of birth as
November 17, 1823 (in) Tennessee.

She married John LUCAS on 07 March 1838 in Monroe Co.,
Indiana.
I believe they had 9 children.

THANK YOU to Randi Richardson for the time spent helping the
rest of us with our research!
