Elia Able has been looking up the old people of Monroe County with a
purpose of preparing some kind of a statement that will be of interest to
old and young as well. The TELEPHONE has been permitted to share some of
his knowledge from which it is learned that fifteen couples reside within
eight miles of Ellettsville that have lived together more than fifty years,
as follows: John Stanger, Chris. Shawrer, Lewis Waldron, James. R. Parks,
Jesse Runnelds, Andrew Reeves, Peter Whitsell, Jacob Woods, Thomas
Farrington, Lindsey Williams, John Ellett, Valentine Cline, William Brown,
John Fyffe and James Lee. In Bloomington there are five couples who have
been married fifty years and over: Zemsi Worley, Samuel Hendrix, Jas.
Millen, Thomas B. Galloway and Samuel Orchard. Uncle Able is certainly
correct when he thinks Monroe County is th healthiest spot on the
continent, anyhow in Indiana.
