Joshua Pryor Dies at Old Unionville. Pioneer Resident Saw Much Service in
War.
Joshua Pryor, age 88, well known civil war veteran and pioneer resident of
Old Unionville, died at his home at 8:30 o'clock this morning from
complicatons relative to old age. Mr. Pryor was a retired farmer. He was
a member of the 29th regiment of the Indiana Company D in the Civil War and
fought in most of the important battles of the war. He was a member of G.
A. R. and belonged to the Church of Christ at Unionville.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Lucy Pryor; three sons, Oscar Pryor of
Unionville, Ben F. Pryor, rural route six, Bloomington, and Joseph Pryor of
Nashville; three daughters, Mrs. Amanda Fowler of Solsberry, Mrs. James
Powell of Bloomington and Mrs. Andrew Winer of Greenfield, one step-son,
Fred Butcher at home; three stepdaughters, Mrs. J. W. Brock of Unionville,
Mrs. Florence Butcher of Bloomington and Mrs. C. H. Kheling of
Indianapolis; one brother, Levi Pryor of Rattsville; one half-sister, Mrs.
Hannah Maxwell of Iola, Kans.; twenty-one grandchildren; and nine great
grandchildren.
A step-son, James Butcher and two daughters, Willia Ann Pryor and Liza
Pryor preceeded him in death.
The body will lie in state at the Weir funeral home where friends may call
until 8 o'clock sunday morning and will then be taken to the home in Old
Unionville.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Baptist Church in Unionville at
2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon by Brother Harvey. Music will be in charge
of Mrs. Leslie Peters. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Two civil war veterans of the county are lying at the point of death at
their homes. They are: Enoch Goss, west of the city on the Blomfield
Road, and I. N. May at Ellettsville. Both of them are suffering from
complications peculiar to old age.
