The index to the 1850 Indiana Census shows a Peter Minks enumerated as head
of household in Monroe County, Indian Creek township, p. 350. There were
no other Minks families noted in Monroe County.

The CD version of the 1860 Indiana Census index does not show a Peter
Minks, head of household, anywhere in the state.

The 1860 Indiana Census for Monroe County does show one Minks family.
Henry Minks, head of household, age 46, was living in Indian Creek.
Because Henry was born in Viriginia circa 1814 it is possible that he is
the son of the Peter you identified as born c. 1780-90 in Virginia.

I find Minks in two Monroe County cemetery books including a Peter Minks
who was born in 1871 and died in 1939. I also find Minks listed in various
Monroe County marriage record indices. Before pursuing these leads as
links to your Peter, I would strongly encourage you to prove the
relationship between Henry and Peter. This could be done with land records
and/or probate records.

According to ABSTRACTS OF PROBATE RECORDS, MONROE COUNTY, 1818-1872,
published by the Monroe County Historical Society in 1997, there are four
probate records for Minks: (1) Henry, estate, filed April 29, 1865; (2)
Henry, heirs, filed April 2, 1867; (3) Peter, Sr., estate, filed September
10, 1840, and (4) William Minks, estate, filed January 10, 1871.
