I am a South African working in London and I think the "Grosvenor" was
wrecked off the coast of Natal, South Africa. That is where I grew up
and I remember this wreck being spoken about. I have an idea that at
certain tides parts of the wreck are still visible - or this was the
case at that time. I hope I am not leading you up the garden path with
this information but I think I am correct.
The South African coast has had its fair share of wrecks and the weather
can be very treacherous.
You could try writing to the:
Port Natal Maritime Museum
Aliwal Street
Durban 4001
South Africa
Tel: +27 (31) 300-6324
Sorry - they do not seem to have an email address - maybe there is a fax
and perhaps some kind "Durbanite" will send you the number!
I am also forwarding your enquiry to the South Africa Rootscom list and
we'll see what comes out of this.
SA List Readers - HELP please!!
Siyabonga (Thank you!)
