Subject: Town of Berger

Listers,
I want to thank all of you who have tried to help us locate and
identify the town of Berger. Really appreciate the help.
We have a listing of Cities/Towns Past & Present on our web site
and the town of Berger is not listed there. This list was made up
from three maps, two old and one new, as well as the book of Towns no
longer in existence and the town of Berger was not included.
The following was copied from a book (Title unknown): William
Schreck, born 1832 in Lotte, Westphalen, Preussen. Died before 1869
in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Burial in 'abandoned' cemetery,
three miles south of Berger, Iowa."
We also have the print out of most cemeteries in Polk County. We
checked the Berwick listing and there is no one by the name of Schreck
buried in that cemetery. It is possible that the town could be Bergen
in Allamakee County, but we cannot find Bergen on our map there
either.
Please keep us in mind if you happen to run across a town in Iowa
by the name of Berger or anything similar to that name, especially if
it is near Des Moines, Polk County.
Thanks again to all of you who replied to my first email regarding
this town. Appreciate all your attempts to help.
Regards,
Duane Pierce
