Death of Herbert John clare

Herbert John, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Clare of Emmetsburg township died
Tuesday evening of last week after an illnes of eighteen months. He attended
St. Mary's Academy for some time and finished the eighth grade in 1914
winning the K. C. five dollar prize for the best record for application
and deportment. Some time afterwards, he was taken ill and, though given
the best of medical care, he never gained in strength. The funeral was
held Friday. Services were conducted in the Assumption church, Reverend
W. Viet officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the St. John's Cemetery.
The pallbearers were members of his classes when he attended St. Mary's
Academy. He is survived by his parents, seven brothers and four sisters.
Among those who came from a distance were Mrs. Martha Claer and Mr. and
Mrs. P. J. Claer of Spencer, Sister Mary Christine of St. Francis Academy,
who is a sister of the deceased, Mrs. John Eaton, Mr and Mrs. M. I. Murphy
and E. F. Murphy of Graettinger.

The deceased was a quiet dutiful, industrious, obedient young man. He was
beloved by his fond parents and by his worthy sisters and brothers and
was esteemed by his classmates and other companions. He was bright and
diligent and put to good use the time spent in the school room as was shown
by the prize won by him, mention of which is made above. His death at such
an early age is a source of much anquish to his parents and the other members
of the family. All have the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of relatives
and friend in their bereavement.

Note: Herbert was born 08 June, 1898
