I'm Gary Speck (from Southern Quaki-fornia)
I'm researching my maternal grandmother's family who hailed from Germany, VIA
20-25 years in the Palo Alto communities of Ayreshire and Mallard.

Names are BRATTMILLER, KAHLEY and GROENOW.

My Great Grandfather Friedrich "Fred" Weyers BRATTMUELLER arrived in Palo
Alto Co c 1881 (He landed in NY on Mar 12, 1881). His parents Friedrich
Christian BRATTMUELLER and Meta "Matty" Maria (JANSTEN) and at least one
brother (Charles) arrived c 1884. Fred W became a naturalized citizen on Nov
7, 1887 in Emmetsburg District Court. On Oct 26, 1890 he married Anna
Margarete KAHLEY (b: 1863 in Davenport IA) They had 7 children, two of whom
died as babies. Anna then died on Nov 4, 1903 in Ayreshire. Anna is my
Grandmother's mother. My grandma was born in Oct 1898, so she was only 5
when Anna, her mom, died.

Fred remarried Flora GROENOW on Aug 18, 1904 in Mallard. She was the
daughter of Carl and Emilie (BRANDT) GROENOW. Gustav GROENOW and Marie ZECH
were witnesses. I believe Gustav was the pastor that married them, as a
Pastor Gustav GROENOW is buried in the same area of the cemetery as Fred &
Flora in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Orange, CA. He may have been one of
Flora's uncles. Fred & Flora had 2 children.

I know they were all active Lutherans, but have VERY LITTLE information on
their stay in Palo Alto Co. Most of the entire clan relocated to Southern
California between 1910 and 1919. I know my grandmother's brother, Fred J,
remained behind, and died in 1981 in Ayreshire. His descendents are still in
the area.

If any of these folks seem familiar to you, PLEASE contact me. I have a lot
of info to share, and need a lot more info. Anna KAHLEY is an absolute
mystery to me. All I know about her is her parents were born in Switzerland,
and she had a possible brother living in the area (1900 census).

HELP!!! :)

Gary Speck
