Hello again...I have found that Eliza Devery's maiden name was Crehan or
Creehan...she was born around 1840 in Ireland and came we believe through
New York. My sister says she was adopted, so that could be an adopted name.
I always heard she worked for the Tafts in Ohio. I have no idea how she got
to Ohio...could it have been an orphan train or could she have been
indentured? I wrote to the Taft historians but they had no information. I
also have written to the Fayette Historical Society but no news so far. I
believe that is she who died in 1896. Of course, any information on John
Devery's origins would be appreciated as well. Deverys seem to have been
flax farmers from County Offaly in ireland but I have no information. Mary
Garvey
