We have not been able to pinpoint the port my greatgrandparents, Michael
and Catherine Farrell Byrne arrived from Ireland (or the date). We do know that
they were in Cumberland, MD in 1845-46 as their first child was born there.
They had a son born in Terry Town, PA (northern PA) in 1848. According to
Michael's obituary in 1900, "he came to Iowa by river, from Pittsburg, with two
children, landed at Buena Vista, Dubuque County, lived under the cliff of a
great rock for two weeks, later settled on a farm near Milville, Clayton
County....."
The family is on the 1850 census of Clayton County.
