The History of Jones County, Iowa; .Chicago: Western Hist. Co., 1879
"David Doyle, farmer, Sec. 19; P.O. Anamosa; born in Massachusetts in 1852;
of his parents, one is living, the other dead. He came to Jones Co. in
1867, with his parents, where he has since resided. His wife's maiden name was
Katie Power, a native of Ireland; they were married in 1874; have one
child-Willie. They are Catholics; Mr. Doyle is a Democrat. Owns eighty
acres, all under cultivation."
Thank-you Cathy for this bio.
I have done some additional research on this individual as I had a John
Doyle of MA of Jones and Linn counties. Also I know that Jones Co.,
Webpage has wonderful state census and marriage records.
He and Kate are found in the 1880 census. By the 1895 census he is
married to "Lizzie". The Jones Co., IA marriage records state that Lizzie
is Elizabeth Quigley who I already had in my database. Her parents were
Michael Quigley and Margaret McElin. His father was Wm. Doyle and mother
Johanna Healy.
Now, John's father was also William. They appear to be brothers. But in
the 1880 census Wm. is living with his wife, Margaret Pyne. And John
states in his marriage record that his mother was Margaret Pyne. But David
states his mother was Johanna Healy and in 1879 one parent was
deceased. The birth dates of 2 other siblings match the 1867 migration
date to Jones Co., IA and in the 1895 census these families are in the same
township in close proximity.
Instead of there being 2 Wm. Doyle's of Jones Co., IA, I am thinking that
Wm. married first Johanna Healy who died in MA. He then married Margaret
Pyne in MA and had 1 son (John) before moving to Dubuque (birth place of 2
more siblings) and then Jones Co., IA.
I don't know how or if Catherine Powers (David's first wife) is related to
the Irish Powers family I have in Delaware Co., IA. They too came thru
MA. More research and more questions!
