The Ireland Free state is what is now the Republic Of Ireland,,excluding
Northern Ireland,,,after the Easter Rebellion in 1916 virtual war broke out
between Ireland and Great Britain with Great Britain making "southern"
Ireland a "free state" but still a province to GB,,such as Canada was. This
happened in 1921,,I believe,,,now most Irish didn't like the idea of Northern
Ireland still under British rule and symphasized with the IRA, Sinn Fein,,
who continued to fight the British under the belief,, and a good one,, that
ALL of Ireland should be united,,,but the act of Ireland Free State went
ahead and the first Irish Assembly was established in Dublin in 1925,,so if
you find an ancestor in a 1920 U.S. census it may say their from Ireland,,if
their indeed from Ireland,,,but you may find the same ancestor in a 1930
census saying their from Ireland "Free State",,,which at that time that's
what they liked to call it.
