I'm trying to research my great grandmother (Ellen BRAY) who was born
(from her death certificate) in Manchester, Delaware Co, IA on
02/15/1864 while her parents were traveling to homestead territory in
The Dakota Territory. Her parents were John BRAY and Ellen POWERS.

I've written to the State of Iowa Department of Public Health, and I
received a form back saying that the event occurred before registration
began in Iowa (07/01/1880). Her DC indicates that her parents were both
born in Ireland.

Any suggestions from this wonderful group of people??? I've so enjoyed
belonging to the list and reading all the great information passing back
and forth. Many thanks!

P.S. thanks for the info on "black Irish". I think I can be classed as
that, as I've very dark hair (or used to -- it's now "silver", light
complexion and green eyes. Interesting how we Yanks have funny ways of
referring to our roots.
