Subject: [IA-IRISH] Cost of Ticket from Ireland to Dyersville, IA in 1874

Well, I'm excited because I have another day off work today to spend on
genealogy! I am not a shopper so it's not a deal for me to be out there on
the day after Thanksgiving- sales or no sales. (But bring on a genealogy
book sale and I'll buy!)
Cost of Ticket-Ireland to Dyersville in 1874 was $47.25 per this news
article. Dyersville was where my gg grandfather, wife, and other children
came to c. 1867. Some of the other children came to U.S. earlier. Dyersville
is also where gg grandparents supposedly died, but I'll be darned if I know
where they are buried. They died before 1870. Anyway, that's why I found
this an interesting tidbit. (I think they may be buried at St. Clement's but
have no proof)

Great Reduction in the Passenger Tariff From European Ports to Dyersville
For the benefit of our readers, who have friends across the ocean that wish
to come to this country, we will say that Messrs. KOCH Bros. have made
arrangements to furnish tickets at the following rates:
>From all English and Irish ports, through to Dyersville, $47.25. From
Howbury to Dyersville, $50.25. From Antwerp to Dyersville $54.25. Our
readers will observe from this that the rates of fare have been greatly
reduced and offer great inducements to immigrants to this country.
