I am looking for information on the family of Jane ELLIOTT and James BIRNEY
who settled in Scott County IA. I am looking for confirmation of family
tradition and for any information on their children and their families.

According to family tradition, James was born in County Donegeal and Jane
was born in County Fermanagh. They immigrated, through Philadelphia PA,
where they were married. It is assumed that they arrived before 1846.

I have located the family in the 1850 census in Washington Township,
Cambria County PA. At that time, they lived with the Skier MURPHY
family. James and Skier were miners. Both listed their birthplace as Ireland.

James BIRNEY moved his family to Scott County IA about 1855. They a listed
in the 1856 IA state census in LeClaire Township, Scott County. James and
Jane lived the remainder of their lives in Scott County. James died in
August 1881 and Jane died April 1892 and both are buried in the Mt. Union
Cemetery, Princeton Township, Scott County IA.

Their children were:
Margaret - b. 1846; d. 1928; buried Mt. Union Cemetery, Scott County IA

Mary Ann - b. 1846; d. 1931; buried Mt. Union Cemetery, Scott County IA;
Married William W. DUNCAN on 21 Sept 1876

David - b. 1948; d. 1929; buried Bucklin Cemetery, Ford County KS; Married
Sarah Agnes PATTISON on 25 Dec 1872

John - b. abt 1850

Jane - b. 1852; d. 1918; buried Oak Ridge Cemetery, Scott County IA;
Married Robert FLETCHER on 18 Aug 1870.

Henry - b. 1855; d. 1924; buried Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Scott County IA;
Married Jane PORTER abt. 1882.
