Good Afternoon List
The earliest ancestor I have been able to trace is a John Double born
circa 1720 in Suffolk. I realise that there are several variations of the
name and have found several in my research. My Great Grandfathers siblings
were all baptized as Dubble in the Cambridge area so I do realise that I
have to check every spelling.
A kind gentleman on the Suffolk list suggested that my family may have
descended from the Huguenot's and suprisingly, that is one of the family
stories which seems to have been passed down to each generation so may
well have some truth.
A did hear of a book, a story about by two brothers named Double or, a
derivative of the name, who sailed from Holland in the 16th Century and
their lives once they landed in England. I have been trying to source a
copy.
Funnily enough the writers surname was Plato but, not the historical story
teller of that name.
A copy of the book was listed at the British Library but, when asked for
by a friend, had mysteriously disappeared.
Were my ancestors correct, did the Double name come from mainland Europe?
Hope someone can assist. Many thanks in anticipation
Sandra
