this may not exlain the given name - in thsoe days there was no hard and
fast approach to spelling - it all depended on the education of the clerk, his
way of writing and his hearing and the way a clerk living in a particular area
would interpret the sounds!
Remember, it wasn't until the mid 1850s that French as we know it became the
general language of France, until then most of the provinces had their own
dialects and languages, completely different from another province...I coulkd
go on, but I won't!
