Joan,
I'm a little late replying, but I do have one couple, William Delaney
who married Martha Grimes, Feb 16, 1815. Nothing else about them, but if
there is a chance the original surname might be "DeLancey", then I can
tell you there was a DeLancey family (same as the street named DeLancey
in New York) who came from France.
Etienne DeLancey Born Oct. 24, 1663, in France, married Ann Van
Cortlandt, January 23, 1699/00 in new York City and is said to have had
"numerous" children.
I know of only two; James (b. abt. 1703)and Peter(b.August 26, 1705, N.
Y.). James who moved to S. C., became Lt. Gov. of the Province of South
Carolina. Peter married Elizabeth Colden and their children, Alice and
Peter married in S. C.
Alice married Ralph Izard (later, state senator from Goose Creek) and
Peter married Elizabeth Beresford in Charleston in 1770 and died in a
duel in 1774.
I hope you will excuse me if this family is not the one you seek, but
the two names are easily confused when hand-written.

Seeking information on the Delaney family--early French Huguenot
settlers in the Charleston, SC area. Any information on the
descendants will be most appreciated.
thanks joan
