Elizabeth,
I missed most of this exchange but I routinely check my references for
names if they look familiar.
From # 364 (click on link below my name)
pg 140.
..."Of the settlers of New Rochelle, several were natives of Guyenne.
Jean Magnon came from Tonneins; and Pierre Villeponteux and Jeanne
Rivasson his wife, from the neighborhood of Bergerac..."
FOOTNOTE 1 Pierre Villeponteux was naturalized in England, March 5,
1691. He bought the lands of David de Bonnefoy in New Rochelle. He
had trouble in 1701 and 1702 with the sheriffs of Westchester county,
and was for some reason deposed from the Eldership of the Friends
Church, New Rochelle, by pasteur Bondet, against whom he made
complaint to the Governor. After this he disappears from view.
Rivasson and Villeponteix - perhaps a clerical mistake for
Villeponteux - were both names of Protestants persecuted in Bergerac
and its vicinity.

Thank you Tony, as always, for you information. I have been out of
the loop
for a few years regarding genealogy, but I continue to monitor this
list.
Here is what I have on "my" branch of the VILLEPONTOUX family which
seems
to fit in with the info you have. I would be most curious how any of
these
folks fit in with the branch that went to NY. I am always hoping to
find
more connections to my DUBOIS family.
