My ancestor was Thomas BRIAUS who settled at ManakinTown, VA around 1700. In a census taken in 1714 he was listed as having a wife, three daughters and two sons. One of these sons was named Edward. The name was spelled several different ways in birth records, but finally ended up as BRYARS, my mother's maiden name.
Edward and Sara Bryars had a son, Lazarus, born in 1739. This Lazarus had a son named Lazarus John, who settled in what is now Baldwin County, AL. Lazarus John had a son named Lazarus, born in 1799 in what was the Mississippi Territory, but is now in Baldwin County, AL
The 1799 Lazarus had a son named Wm Lawson Bryars, (1829-1863). Wm Lawson Bryars had a son named Charles Oswald Bryars, (1855-1929),
my grandfather. My mother, Marie Elizabeth Bryars, (1898-1933), was his oldest child by his second wife, Marie Louise McGill, (1875-1928).
All of these later births were in Baldwin County, AL where I was born in 1932.
Does anyone know anything about this family, such as where they came from in France?
Thanks,
Nathan Oswald White Naples, FL
