The LOUISes that I have seen were all LEWIS, which the Dutch sometimes
spelled LODEWYCK and LODEWYCKSE.

I have seen LOSEE, which I believe is French. I had a fraternity brother by
that name and spelling.

Has anyone run across a Louis family that emigrated in 1651 to New Amsterdam
? I have found the following names in various records : Loyise , Loijse ,
Loyse , among others , and they seem to be about the same family . Jannitje
Janse Loyse married Adriaen La Forge (a Huguenot-de la Forge ) and lived at
Bushwyk . Cornelis Looyse , Jan Cornelis Loyse , and Pieter Jansen Loijse
also lived in Kings Co. , NY . Any help appreciated . Mahalo , Kevin
