Elizabeth,
Perhaps the names were the godparents. In Spanish, the name for
godparents are madrina and padrino. It should be similar in French.
Maybe I am off the mark here, but it seems reasonable.
The other question I have, do you find the name PREVOST? I have
received some unsubstantiated info that they fled France to England,
then to Canada, and then to Martinique before arriving in Charleston.
