Ari,
Thank you for your response (as well as those others who responded
privately.) It is good to know that there are others on this list who are
interested in Waldensians. If I run across a list of Waldensian surnames,
I'll let you know.
I have seen the surname Beus in some of the literature I have found in
the Salt Lake City Family History Library. The focus of my research there
has been in mostly german writings. I'll take some time to see what I can
find on your Beus surname. Do you believe that your Beux/Beus ancestors
came to South America from the Piedmont/Piemont through Germany?
Thank you for the meaning of Balce and the other spelling variations. I
had read that the name means a cornice, but was not familiar with the other
useage you mentioned. I would be interested in similar information on
Coutandin.
The marriage I noted in my original post was recorded in the early
Palmbach records. Were you aware that the name of the area before the
arrival of the Waldensians was (Gruen)Wettersbach? The writers about this
group suggest that they came from La Balme in the Val Perosa.
