Dianne: I can't help you verify that the DEBORD name is a Huguenot
name, but I can assure you the Smyth County, Virginia DEBORDs are
wonderful people. Although my husband and I now spend six months in
Florida, our home is in Marion, Smyth County, Virginia. My husband
is a retired veterinarian who used to do lots of work for the DeBords
in Rich Valley and can vouch for their being great folks.
I, too, am hoping to verify that two of my lines are Huguenots--
JACKS (JACQUES, perhaps originally) from Anne Arundel County, MD, and
the VIGNEs who were 1623 settlers in New Amsterdam, now New York. I
know the VIGNEs were Walloons and I believe that justifies their
being elgible for the Huguenot Society.
I am wondering is you are a native of Smyth County--I know there
are several Williams families in the area. Would be pleased to hear
from you. Maxine Crawford Fenyk
