While in the Musee du Desert (Mialet, Mas Soubeyran, Cevennes, mandatory
visit for Huguenot tourists coming to France), I learned that those loan
receipts made by Coligny and Conde were rather gift receipts for
sponsoring religious wars in France. They were fund raising among the
earlier refugees.

By the way, I saw in the same protestant museum a 1685 manuscript from a
cousin of mine, descendant of french huguenots who had left France in the
begining of persecutions (1550-1560) before the promulgation of the Edit
de Nantes.

When the same Edit de Nantes was revoqued, they had become important
citizens in Geneva (syndic) and could gladly welcome those who arrived
after 1685.

Thank you so much again to Don for that very interesting history of first
fights betwenn french huguenots and spanish catholics.
