Hi David,

I just checked. Out of the over 4000 descendants or so of Chretien that I
have, I have no names that match any of those first two queries that you
inquired about. Would you possibly have any more info on that marriage that
you referred to in query three?

Also, a lot of my info is either "borrowed info" or stuff that is not
recognized by the du Bois family association. I like everything since I'm
more of a history buff than genealogist. I just like seeing what "could"
have happened. I leave the definitive works to others. My point is, that
you may want to contact Catherine, who is the secretary of the du Bois
Family Association at for some definitive and more
comprehensive works.

David--

DELIGHTED to have you here!!! Not only because I am a DuBOIS
descendant,
but because I am a huge fan of Charles Baird's work.

I will address the DuBois questions, and leave it to others
to address
the others.

I tend to classify the American DuBOIS' as follows:

1) Descendants of Chretien DuBois who settled in the New
Paltz, New
York, Kingston, Staten Island, etc.; and

2) The rest of us.

Given that 1) your DuBois was likely in New York, and 2) the
first
category above far outweighs the second in terms of numbers
and
research, you'd be well off to subscribe to the DuBois-L
list and
posting your query there. I am forwarding this to Tim Quinn
who started
this list and who is very helpful on lookups.

Another list for the DuBois' is the Dubose-L list which
still welcomes
us orphaned DuBois' not yet connected to Chretien's lines.
The Dubose-L
list is a good place also if you think any branch of the
family might
have landed south of the Mason-Dixon, especially South
Carolina.

As for web sites, there are many (lucky you!) for the New
York DuBois'.
One that I'll mention is a DuBois Family Association link
at:

The DBFA email address is: .

Good luck!
