According to a my second cousin's husband who is of French-Canadian origin and
a lifelong genealogical obsessive, some Huguenots made their way to Canada and
reconverted in order to own land there. My cousin's husband's life changed
when he learned of his proud French explorer past; he was living as a child in
a triple decker in Manchester, NH, where Franco-American bias runs deep,
planning a life in the mills because that is what Franco-Americans did, but
when he became aware of his ancestor's accomplishments, he lifted his sights,
and he went on to a fine career as an engineer. He is Roman Catholic, but
some of his forebears were Huguenots.
