Dear Carol and list members,

"Now, sa femme is Mary (maybe Chastain?) my ancestress. She and Nicholas
went to Manakintown to live. After Nicholas died, Mary remarried in 1720
to Thomas Prewitt of Henrico Co. They had children: Thomas (my
ancestor), a Daughter, Abraham, Rene, Wm., David, Michael."

The CHASTAIN folk also tell us that that Antoine did not marry a
CHASTAIN(I wonder who the CHASTAINs did marry<grin>)....again, this is
not primary source info, so who knows??? And if there are any CHASTIAN
folks on this list, we'd love to work with you on this and try to get to
the truth.
BTW, we have the "Agee Register", a nice big fat book with lots of
Manakin names....please go ahead and ask for a lookup.

And then, the gentleman who inspired us to join this list:
Descendants of Isaac Hersey

1 Isaac HerseyBef 1700 - 1768b: Bef 1700d: 1768
.+Elizabeth Sluyter
2 Solomon Hersey1730 - 1801b: 1730d: 1801 in New Castle, Mill
Creek Hundred, Del.
....+Elizabeth1732 - 1782b: 1732d: 1782
"Isaac Hersey, born, Bef 1700, of Huguenot parents, who fled to Germany
from the province of Maine, in France, where his ancestors had been
Seignieurs de Herce, and of other feudal estates, for many generations;
he emigrated from the Palatinate, and came to America in the early part
of the 18th century; in 1720 he purchased lands and mills west of
Christeen, in New Castle Co., Del., where he settled; he died ante 1768,
leaving a will, the record of which cannot now be found, but which is
refered to in the proceedings of the Orphans Court of New Castle Co.
The orthography of this name, as it occurs in public records, has varied
greatly at different times; the following may be instanced: de Hirce,
Herce, Hirey, Harcy, Hearcy, Hercey, Hershy, Hirschi, Hershey, and
Harshey."
This is the well researched work of a genealogist named SHAKESPEARE,
unfortunately, although we can trace his sources on everything else, we
cannot find out how he knows Isaac is an Huguenot. The work was done in
the late 1800s, he quotes his grandfather as a source....
Anybody have any HERSEYs?

This guy is driving us nuts. We have a long family mythology about the
family being French....he marries a SLUYTER which ties him a lot of
other Huguenot familes(BAYARD, BOUCHELLE,DE LA GRANGE)....

And then we have CRESSON...we descend from Pierre, we have a great deal
of info on this line....if we can help.....write.

One more thing....if we can help anyone who has information to share,
but is uncomfortable with HTML, let us know. We would be most glad to
help you get your pages online.....we've done it for lots of folks....

them....we are way behind)
