I went to google and typed in the village of my grandmother's family.
Nyirlugos. I came up with two of my own posts about my visit there, but I
found an interesting e-mail from someone who may also be a descendent of the
Szeman family that originates in that village. The Szeman's apparently had
a large family in Nyirlugos; I know of three Erzabet (my grandmother), Marta
(her sister), and Janos (her brother). A lovely older woman named Juliana
(daughter of Marta Szeman) is still living there.
Someone named Christina Szeman posted the e-mail. Christina wanted to know
how to get birth and death certificates from people in Nyirlugos when
Hungary was a part of Austro-Hungary. Some of my (and possibly hers too)
relatives still live in that small village and I could ask them where one
might find birth and death certificates. I e-mailed her directly, but the
e-mail came back.
So, if Christina Szeman is still a part of this list, please e-mail me and
I'll ask the folks in Nyirlugos. The documents might be kept in either the
Orthodox of Cathlic churches there.
Carol
