For those of you who have used the www.arcanum.hu website, I thought I'd let
you know that it looks like the medieval records at www.arcanum.hu/mol are
constantly being added to. I just found an additional record that had not
been there before.

For those of you who are not familiar with this website,
www.arcanum.hu/gesta (családkutatás) gives information on Hungarian noble
families, while www.arcanum.hu/mol is a compilation of medieval documents.
Names of both nobles and non-nobles can be found in them. For example, the
name I am seeking, which was ennobled in the 1600s, is found among a list of
serfs in the 1400s and is named as owing socage in the 1500s. Tracing the
location of the landowners shows that all three instances of this name
appear in the same general geographical area. However, you will need a good
Hungarian-English dictionary, such as Magay-Országh, or a helpful
translator, to tease out the information. A few of the medieval documents
are in Latin.

Happy hunting.

Janet
