If I can pop in again, I was told by a Hungarian who often helps me that
Hungarians don't have middle names. I asked about it because my husband's
great-grandfather, when he anglicized his name, chose to give himself a
middle name as well, and Jeno became Eugene Arthur. But the church records
tell a different story. Though the vast majority of baptismal records that
I have seen have a single name only, there are certainly exceptions. Middle
names, however, only seem to have been given by noble families. I have even
seen one instance where a female was baptized with three names. The first
time I saw two given names I wondered if it referred to twins, but it looks
like twins are always clearly designated as such.
By the way, to Cheryl, I loved the interchange on godparents. I too hope
this will result in a bunch of entries.
Janet

My grandparents and father did not have middle names. Is this common?
