It is a very German name but was used in Hungary.

No, it is Magyar.
remember in Hungary Jewish people were considering themselves Magyars first
then Jews, so names did not always reflect race or religion.

(2.) The letter in Hungarian addressed to Clotilda mentions something costing

500,000 Leieue and in another part of the letter it reads Lei.

There was a terrible inflation in those days so it may just be a couple of
bucks depending on the exact date.

I am perplexed in that one of the signatures postscripted to the letter

written in Hungarian looks like Lucretia. I recognize this as Italian. Is
there any

given name in Hungarian that is similar?

Lukrécia or Lucretia was a rare but recognizable first name.
remember: Hungary had 5 sizable ethnic population until 1918, even the
denomination on the paper money was printed in 5 languages. so Slavic, Germanic, and
Italian words/names were not uncommon.
