I have been doing early spring housecleaning and found a magazine that may be of interest to some of you. It is the November/December 1995 issue of a Magazine called Piecework. I don't know if they still put out this magazine or not but the it was published by the Interweave Press inc. in Loveland, Colorado.
The article of interest is called Polya Zsuzsa Hungarian Embroiderer. Under her picture it has the name Susi Lanyi which isthe name she goes by now. She was born in Budapest in 1916 and as of 1995 lives in Oberlin, Ohio. The article tells about her family and husband and if anyone wants more information I will be glad to write more about her.
The main point is the article has five pages of her beautiful embroidery. There are samples from Kalotaszeg, Transylvania, Buzsak, Transdanubia and Western Transdanubia, Torcho, Translyvania and Mezolovesed. It also has reference to other magazine articles on Hungarian articles and folkware. This article tell some of the history of the embroidery. The last page is called Celebrating The Rituals and Riches of Life. Hungarian of course!
One might be able to find a copy at a library. Forgive me for not using the proper marks above the Hungarian words.
