Hi Gale,

Unfortunately, trying to do your own research in Ukraine is almost
impossible. While SOME (very few) have had some luck writing to the
Archives in Ungvar, it has been quite expensive and the results, if they got
any, were not always what they had hoped for.

As for Palagy, it became part of its sister city, Palgykomorcz, and today
is called Palagy-Komarivci and/or Komarivci. Joe Jarfas gave you the URL
for my webpage on my ancestral village of Kisgejoc which is very close to
Palagy so you can get some info on the area from that. Several years ago I
had another inquiry for Palagy and had some historical info on the village,
similar to that you see on my webpage, which I sent him and he had
translated. I would be more than happy to give you that translation if you
want it. I can also send you the gentleman's e-mail address, and would
suggest you get in touch with him, as I know he was very into finding his
family from Palagy.

If you need to know what churches were there or where parisoners went for
services, I can supply that, as well, so just let me know. Other than that,
I would suggest writing a letter to the mayor of the village (Hungarian will
do since the majority of the inhabitants are Hungarian), and see if there is
a possiblity that some of your relatives still live there. You might also
want to put a post on the Ukraine board and see if someone there has access
to a phone book for the area. That is how I found out that I still had
family in Kisgejoc :-)

Wish I could be more help but I'm in the same boat as you. I just keep
hoping the LDS will get in there one of these years and open the door for a
whole bunch of us!

Regards,
Suzannej
