Hungarian Village Finder, Atlas, and Gazetteer for the
Kingdom of Hungary (HVF) on CD-ROM shows a Merk in
Nagy-Kroly Jrs, Szatmr Megye. You can see it on
this map from Etvs University, Department of
Cartography:
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910/szatmar.jpg
HVF also shows that the settlement had a Reformed and
Roman Catholic church. You can see if the LDS have
the records from those churches:

localitydetails&subject=76563&subject_disp=Hungary,_Szatmr&columns=*,180,0
Today, you will find Merk in Szabolcs-Szatmr-Bereg
megye (county) and still called Merk.
Good luck to you,
Steve
