Linda,
You raised the point about Austrians vs Germans. I would not insult either by
calling them the wrong name! What I said was:
The language on the paper money was in 5 languages including German. (I am
collecting old bills just like old relatives, hahahahaha)
There were a lot of ethnic Germans in the old Hungary, from Bavaria,
Schwabia, etc., as well as Austrians at the boarder region called Burgenland
(because of the many "burg"s i.e. castles there). My point was that a hundred
years ago an immigrant may have registered as from Hungary (since the
passport was issued there) but differentiated himself as Magyar or Slovak or
Croatian, etc.
