Subject: [HUNGARY-L] Request about location of town.
Date: Sat, 8 Sep 2001 09:57:52 EDT
I have information regarding a town referred to as Gic-Hathalom with (Romand)
in parenthesis on geneological records on my grandmother's side for the
family of Gyuling. When, referring to the immigration records of Ellis
Island, some of the Gyulings have their town listed as Gitz which makes me
assume that the current name of the town is a mix of the old and then new
form.
My question is whether the word Romand, in parenthesis, means that this
town is in Romania now?? If, so, someone wrote on one of their responses that
the LDS library does not have birth or death records, etc for towns in
Romania, which was formerly part of Hungary.
Also, what nationality or origin would the name Csernye be? This was the
surname of the wife of Janos Gyuling, who was the father of Mihaly Gyuling,
who was my grandmother's father.
