Subject: [HUNGARY-L] Vizesda, Hungary and the Frank family
Date: Thu, 6 Sep 2001 12:12:08 EDT

Looking at the Ellis Island records, I located Peter Frank, traveling
with his father, Janos (Johan) Frank. Peter's last residence is given as
Vizesda, Hungary. In searching for that location, I have found a Vizesd, a
Vizesdia, and other variations, but not that particular spelling. Another
relative did a look-up on maps, and indicated that he found it just 20-30
miles northwest of Johannisfeld, a few hundred yards on the Romanian side of
the present border. I have not found it on a map. My first question: what
might be the correct or current spelling, and is it in Hungary or Romania?
Second question: are there any websites or Familienbuchs that would help to
track the Frank family?
According to the EIR, Peter arrived in the US in 1909 at age 15, making
him born approximately 1894; his father, Johan, was 44, making his birth year
approximately 1865. Supposedly, Johan was the mayor of Vizesda, a
wheelwright, and the only one licensed to make brandy. Sounds like an
interesting man!! I would like to locate the family, if I were only sure
where to start. Any help or suggestions gratefully received.
Jeanne
