Jeanne;
Your "TorontalSzigit, Hungary" is in fact Torontalsziget/Torontal-Sziget, in
the "old" [pre-WWI] hungarian Torontal Megye/County, Antalfalvi
jaras/district, in the Banat region. It is located at NW of Pancevo, on the
Temes/Timis, River.
This village had the following names: Sakula in german language; Szakula in
romanian language; Sakule/Sakula in serbian language. In 1898 had 530 houses
and 2878 inhabitants [mainly serbs and germans; in 1913 there were 2435
serbs and 322 germans].
Torontal-Sziget was a filial parish [from the beginning and, as far as I
know, in the 1910's included] of Oppowa [in German: Königsdorf, Oppowa/
Serbian: Opovo/ Hungarian: Opava; FHL records: Koenigsdorf, Oppowa, Opava;
FHL microfilm no. 1190408, 1271585]. RC Church records at FHL: B 1766-1872;
M 1766-1872; D 1766-1872.
In Opova today's local RC parish are to be found the church registers for:
B period 1766-1830 and 15.08.1897-up to date;
M starting 9.04.1901-up to date;
D 2.05.1877-up to date.
The "missing" records [from the parish] are to be found at the local civil
registration.
Good Hunting !
