Subject: [HUNGARY-L] Dorogi/Dobos/Kalapos Abod Borsod

Hello listers,
I am only beginning my family research on my great grandparents, Andrew
Dorogi and Barbara Drummer (Dobos). Both were born in Hungary. The baptismal
records of their children list their place of origin as Abod com. Borsod. In
the record, can anyone tell me what the com. would stand for, does this mean
that they came from the village of Abod in the toiwn of Borsod? The 1920
census lists each of them as having come to The United States in 1898. I am
going to be going to look at ship passenger list indexes tomorrow as per
recommendation of one of the listers here. Would I be safe in assuming that
the port they may have arrived at was in New York?
Andrew Dorogi was born 1868 in Hungary to Andrew Dorogi and Elizabeth
Kalapos. I do not have parent information for Barbara.
I am very interested in corresponding with others of these surnames or
anyone whom might be able to share information with me regarding this part of
Hungary. I am totally new to this research and would sincerely appreciate any
help given. Would anyone be able to suggest which parish records I would
order for this part of Hungary?

Thank you,

Tom
