I am about to order a film from the FHC center. I saw in the NARA microfilm
catalogue that passenger lists were soundexed. There is a film that has the
soundex that goes from K622 - K624.
First question: Am I correct in thinking that this also includes K623, which
is the one I am after?
The film covers the years from 1902 to 1943.
Second question: Does that mean that you don't have to know the year that
your relatives came over, that you would do a search by name and the
approximate time of arrival?
I haven't ordered any films from the FHC yet, so I am not familiar with the
format. I am assuming, which is not always a good thing to do, that when I
get that film I will scroll along until I find my family names somewhere on
that roll. They say that all passenger lists are available from NARA or FHC.
That being the case, knowing the port of arrival (NY) that I should be able
to find their records on that film. Am I thinking right? What can I expect
or not expect to find? I would like to go a bit prepared for this so I have
an idea of what I am doing. Thanks for your time.
