I have just started researching my father's side of the family. Also recently joined this list The information provided here is invaluable.

My great grandfather Ludwig Emanuel Manoly was born in Szabadka, Hungary on Feb 18, 1855. He studied music (double bass) at the Vienna Conservatory. Came to the USA in 1876. Played for the NY Philharmonic for 50 yrs and taught at the predicessor school to Juliard. I have been able to obtain information about his career from the NY Philharmonic Archives...BUT... it all starts after he came to the USA.
I want to know more about the Hungarian man..parents..brothers or sisters etc. I need help as to where to start. Help!!!
