Hello,
I have a few questions about Elek, Hungary in the 1800's. I hope someone
could help me answer a few.
Is it true that Elek use to be in Arad County but is now in Bekes?
I have been researching SCHLESINGER and RUCK in the 1800s in Elek. After
looking at the Elek Catholic Baptism microfilms from the FHC I noticed that
the infant mortality rate seemed to be more than 50%. What was happening
during that time which made the mortality rate high?
The occupation of my grandfather, Anton Schlesinger, was recorded as
"gepen" . What does that mean?
I would like to know more about the history of Elek. From records I have
seen it looks like SCHLESINGERS came to Elek in 1744 from Schweinfurt.
When, Where and Why did german immigrants come to Hungary?
I know I have many questions. I hope some can be answered here.
Information about my family:
Anton Schlesinger (1869-1934)
parents: Adam Schlesinger Anna Wittmann
wife:
Teresia Ruck (1889-1970)
parents: Lorincz Ruck Rozala Bloch
Son: (born in Cleveland, Ohio) Anton Joseph Schlesinger (1927-)
Thank you in advance for any information you may share,
Toni
