Hello Denise -
You can save yourself a lot of time before you go to Hungary. Since you are very
new, I am wondering if you have yet had the opportunity to learn about the Family
History Centers of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Because
genealogy is very important to the Mormons, they have collected a huge amount of
information. They have filmed many records from Hungary back to the 1600's.
There is a main library in Salt Lake City, the Family History Library (FHL).
Around the country there are Family History Centers(FHC) based at church sites.
These can be found in the phone book. Also they are listed at the FHL web site,
which is www.familysearch.org. If you haven't been there you should go there and
explore the offerings. If you know the locality in Hungary you need, you can look
it up on the web site and see what they have. If they have microfilms you will
probably be able to go to a nearby FHC and make arrangements to rent the
microfilm and read it when it comes into the center.
Others on the list can tell you more about direct dealings with archives in
Hungary. I haven't gotten that far, yet.
