I'm trying to locate old country family ties related to my grandfather, Joseph Kuncir, who was born about 1873, emigrated to the US about 1902, and died in August 1932. He claimed to have been a Hungarian, but that may have been because of the political state of eastern Europe at or before his birth. Family tradition says that he was "exiled" from Hungary when he was about 12 years old. He lived in Moravia and Bohemia after that time and served in the Austria-Hungarian army sometime prior to leaving for the US. He was listed as having been a button maker in the 1910 US census, a trade he may have acquired here. The Kuncir surname still exists in the Czech Republic, per an article written by an R Kuncir in 1995, but I have no direct contacts with anyone with the name other than those I know in the US.
Guy Kuncir
