Becky --

Here is a handful of guesses of place names in old Hungary that might have
been pronounced something like "Cinder" or "Sender".

- There are a number of places called "Szentendre" or "Szentandras" or that
contain (or contained) "Szentendre" or "Szentandras" in their names.
Notably there is a "Szentendre" not far north of Budapest.

- There was a "Center" or "Czenter" northwest of Miskolc and a "Szendro"
north of Miskolc.

- There are three villages in Romania called "Centru", all near Cluj
(Koloszvar); one named "Cinedru" between Sibiu (Nagy Szeben) and Tirgu Mures
(Marosvasarhely); and one named "Sandru" between Cluj and Tirgu Mures. All
of these are in Transylvania and I think they would have been in the
Hungarian counties of Kolosz, Torda-Aranyos, or Maros-Torda before 1920.

- Also in Romania there is a "Sandra" (formerly Sandorhaza) about 33 km NW
of Timisoara (Temesvar) and a "Sintar", also near Timisoara. These are in
the Banat, and would have been in the Hungarian county of Temes before 1920.

This list is far from exhaustive. You might want to try searching in
ShtetlSeeker (http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm) and try to
get a little more information from any living relatives if possible.

I hope this is helpful.

Robert
