I thought this one deserves a public answer, so here goes: There is a wonderful
tool, available via e-mail, for finding German towns. What you do is send a
message to with the names of the towns you are interested in,
listed one per line in the body of the message. No subject line is needed.
This will return detailed information on all towns that start with the first 10
letters you enter (only the first 10 letters of the name are used).

There are also two additional options... a wildcard search and a soundex
search. These options return a list of possible town names, but no detail.
Once you see the list, you select towns of interest and send a new message as
explained above.

You do the wildcard search by putting an asterisk (*) somewhere in the town
name. You do the soundex search by preceding the town name with a question
mark (?). But beware, a soundex search can generate a huge number of matches
which sometimes seem to have nothing to do with the entered name.

I do not know anything about them except where they are. The first, Oberwiesen
(Gem Ludwigsburg), County: Ludwigsburg {LB}, RegBez: Stuttgart, Land:
Baden-W"urttemberg, ZIP: 71686, is located just north of Stuttgart (within 5 km
of the city limit), near (or contained in) the town of Ludwigsburg. It is too
small to appear on the maps I have of the area.

The second, Oberwiesen (Pfalz), County: Donnersbergkreis (Kirchheimbolanden)
{KIB}, RegBez: Rheinhessen-Pfalz, Land: Rheinland-Pfalz, ZIP: 67294, is about
1/3 of the way along a line from Kaiserslautern to Mainz, about 3 km NW of the
town of Kirchheimbolanden. This one is big enough to appear on some of the
more-detailed maps I have.

I do not know what churches would be associated with these towns, but I'm sure
someone on
and/or could help you there. If you are not a
member, just post a message anyway, tell them you are not a list-member and ask
for a private reply, as you won't receive the response if they post it to the
list.

As for your other message:

> Koschna (which I thought was Hungary).

I don't know anything about Koschna. Can someone else on this list confirm or
deny Shelley's supposition?
